Yes, we all know that we have to ‘know ourselves’ — to perceive our soul print and be true to its imprint. Yet, there are some times when we have to be willing to be something completely opposite to our nature. For the sake of love, we need to be able to see ourselves totally radically different from what we thought we were. We need to let our very set and solid self-perception wash away for a moment — to give our selves up.
The most wonderful thing is that this teaching by Master Menaachem Mendel of Chabad ends as follows, ‘when was the red sea really a sea? After it was ready to change’When are you really what you are? Only if you can be anything for somebody you love. Only if you are willing to see yourself totally different from all you thought you were. If you’re water, turn to dry land for the sake of love. Then we you go back to being water, you are more really water, more really you, than you ever were before.
