Eros we now begin to understand is the primal desire from which the word springs into being. God’s Eros created the world.
One of the great questions asked by the realized beings in every tradition is -“Why is there a world”.
That the world evolved- no question; that it evolved by chance- No chance.
Evolution emerges through a divine loving intelligence that both inheres in – and is beyond – the fabric of our reality.
But why? Why does the divine move towards self disclosure.
The deepest realization of the masters is that God seeks recognition. God’s self disclosure is divine desire:
“God lusts to make his dwelling in the lower worlds”, write the hebrew mystics;
a primal divine desire to be recognized, to be seen. To be loved.
When we distort and demonize each other, when we clutch desperately to the egoic immortality project of “being right” something contracts- something dies in a part of God.
When we see each other with God’s eyes, give up being right, and find ways to heal and repair the shattered vessels – some part of God is reborn.
Our lack of Eros could destroy the world. Love or Die.
The mystics of every religion — those who lived on the inside — understand that this is not mere metaphor. Every act of union causes and participates in divine union.
The human being participates in the divine love affair even as God participates in the human love affair. For beneath the veil of illusion all really is one!
