Love Letters: Marc Gafni
We have been talking about love letters the last day or two. Some people have written and asked about love letters. Specifically If i might share another example.
I am now writing a book {not about any persons or specific events} but a more broad and universal book about broken hearts and the different paths of loving that beckon us on our journeys. In the course of that work i recently came across two love letter which I wrote….
I combined a piece of each of them in the letter below.
they were written not to romantic partners but to new and old friends, at different stages of my life, as we sought our way in relationship…

hi sleepy bunny…methinks it should be morning for you or almost morning….
blessings on many quiet breaths…I have spend much of my life in overdrive..
i love the wonder of creating and moving energy and at the same time yearn “for many quiet breaths to feel the infinite”
let it be so…
perhaps we might find a quiet space to take some of those quiet breaths together on some fine afternoon…
how is your heart. she asks
.. what a subtle and gorgeous question…
and what a daring act it is to ask about a heart…
and what of your heart he asks in return….
what makes your heart quicken it’s pace
where does your heart yearn for more than anyplace else
how do you keep your heart open through the wounds of love …
I am thinking of you as well as we dance in the open space of virtual reality
where in the privacy and deliberate white canvas of email, words can be chosen and deployed
lightly loosely and ever so carefully
not a care born of fear but a care born in the dance of saying hello
leaning in… wondering if it is safe
leaning back and then leaning in again to ever so slightly brush the tender presence of an other
to whom your heart might open…in whatever vessel is most fitted to the light that seeks to shine it’s way through
the heart is very subtle in it’s disguises, sometimes it seeks ownership and security and disguised the quest in the most lovely of phrases.
security is good and and it is a quest for dignity even as it is an impossible quest for vulnerability always intrudes in some form or another.
I love the classical forms of security and partnership but at this point in my life I am not available to them. I hope that will change in the next couple of years.
I give you my vulnerability and my love
but not all of my love. I will at this time in my life allow my love to be more free and expanded.
If to love you means to love only you and close my heart in other places, I understand and honor your desire but cannot fulfill at this time.
And yet the search for that one love is legitimate, important and beautiful.
It is just not the place I am in at this moment as exclusive commitment is at this moment to my service in the world. There is so much I want to share and give, there is so much love in so much teaching i want to humbly offer…
I know, as you wrote, that of course there are those whose hearts will always be closed. Who will throw all manner of hatred. And I love them too…
perhaps even most of all…
and one more word about heart
there is a teaching from the biblical mystics
it is written that “these sacred words shall be on your heart”
the mystics asks why should sacred words be on your heart and not in your heart
to which the mystics answer – the words are on your heart seeking to find their way in
only when your heart breaks does it open and do the words fall in…
so my heart is shattered but open
my desire for service, the fire of creation, the soft petals of the intimate dance, the fury at injustice, the drive to break through higher and higher
