Sudden Stunning Significance

A few years ago, I saw a wonderfully long, obscure film by Claude Lelouche. Though it never explicitly mentioned it, it was fully a film about falling in love. We followed three generations through three hours of film, not quite sure where we were being led. All of those strange and random scenes however built to the very last moment of the story. In it a young man and woman meet “by accident” on a plane.

We realize that what appears to be a chance encounter has in fact been planned by the universe for three generations. A seemingly meaningless story has suddenly flourished forth with stunning significance.
