Let’s pull it together! We are born back to back, says Luria. This refers to the state before you become conscious. The goal is to leave your father and mother — that is, to become conscious of your father and mother force — what Luria terms nesirah, the mystery of splitting. After splitting, your turn from back to back — to panim el panim — face to face. This higher state of being, “face to face,” means you have arrived at consciousness. Nothing changes, yet everything changes. You become aware of your face, your insides. You become aware that Jenny has some of the characteristics of your split-off imago.

Once you gain consciousness, the fact that your initial attraction to Jenny may be set into play by your unfinished business with Mum is totally fine. As long as you are aware of it, you can use that free gift of attraction – what we have termed arousal from above – as an energy source to help you totally connect with Jenny. To see her, to know her, and to let her see and know you…

This is the core intent of Master of Rishin when he said that you choose your parents, and not the other way around. You peer down from the cosmic sea of heavenly souls and choose exactly what sort of constellation of characteristics and circumstances you will be born into. You choose exactly the parents you need this around.

Nature and nurture are suddenly collapsed into each other. According to your soul’s nature will be your parents nurture. It is the dynamic set into play with these parents that will help you to heal and grow in the precise way your soul needs in this stage of the journey.

Conscious loving requires the fullest possible understanding of my imago. I need to paint the image of my missing partner as clearly as possible. It is necessary to “leave father and mother,” meaning to gain sufficient distance in order to comprehend and act consciously. This allows you to joyfully recognize your instinctive attractions as hints that point you in the right direction. Conscious and unconscious loving, the personal and transpersonal, come together to chart your path of love.
