To See the Imperfect Soul

For me, this story that I shared yesterday from the tradition of the Baal Shem, incomplete and strange as it is, nevertheless captures at least one critical dimension of loving. The universe joins us with whom we need to heal the tear in our soul. The great gift of being is that we have healing to offer to all those who would heal us. For there is no person who is not a wounded healer.

Falling in love is to perceive — often unconsciously – the infinite beauty of your partner — even, and perhaps especially, through that part of them that is crippled .

Love is the primal thrust towards wholeness. We all want to be whole even as we are all broken. “Broken” doesn’t mean you’re guzzling down pints in a gutter in Manhattan.

Although it might.

It does mean that you have a yearning and an emptiness that you keep well hidden from the world. The person you marry can fill a significant part of that emptiness if you choose the right person. Your partner needs to be a person who has received your soul print. Part of your soul print is the utterly unique way you are broken.

There is nothing as whole as a broken heart.

There is no such thing as a generic quest for wholeness. There is only the very special healing and growth that is radically specific to you, only that can be the destination of your journey in this life time.
