One of the beauties of a spiritual system which invites an occasional fast day is that you can’t just jump to devour. Instead, you have to sit there in the hunger, in the emptiness. From there you can observe the moments when you crave, seek out the source of the craving, and then discern if this is wholesome or unwholesome hunger. Are you feasting or are you being feasted upon?
Have you brushed up against the emptiness again? Did you fill it up with a quick fix or did you take that extra precious moment to pursue its deeper source? That extra moment is the infinite distance between surface and depth. Next time, take the time to search out the source. Erotic presence is about going for the root, rather than snipping at the twigs.
