An Integral Teaching: A Enemy is One Whose Story We Have Not Heard: Marc Gafni

This cite below, which I saw today in a flier about a beautiful teaching event, sent to me by the organizer (a person of genuine depth and wisdom) is True, And Not True and the True Again.

“AN ENEMY IS ONE WHOSE STORY WE HAVE NOT HEARD”

1) True, perspective taking is the portal to enlightenment.

2) Not True, not all perspectives are equal, their is a hierarchy of perspectives. Some perspectives are better then others. Pathological Hierarchy is bad. Holistic or organic, natural hierarchy is simply the nature of reality.

3) And True Again: From a non -dual perspective; if we enter deeply enough into someone else’s story, we realize that – had we been raised under the precise set of conditions that they were raised etc. etc. we would be them. In the depth of every other we meet ourselves. So an Enemy is one whose story we have not heard.

And then again it is not true….and then it is true and then it is not…as we ascend higher and higher and descend deeper and deeper into the curves and woof of reality….

Holding that complexity, in an obvious, simple and gentle way is the mark of genuine enlightenment and the motivation for true compassion which always transcends and includes justice.

And as the Hebrew wisdom masters like to say, “let the hint be sufficient for the wise”
